ILASFAA Conference - Charity Event
This year at the ILASFAA Conference, we are once again hosting a Charity Event to support two deserving organizations. Individual ILASFAA members and some ILASFAA committees have donated amazing baskets to be raffled at the conference. Raffle items and baskets will be available for viewing in the Conference Exhibit area. Proceeds from the raffle items and baskets will be split between the McClernand Elementary school in Springfield and The Hope Institute for Children and Families.

McClernand Elementary school sits right in the heart of the Enos Park Neighborhood. Many of you might remember the Enos school that we supported at 2008 ILASFAA conference. The McClernand School is extremely high need with a low-income rate of 90.9% and 58.9% turnover rate. Many parents cannot afford to provide the very basic educational supplies needed, let alone to provide the proper shoes for their children. We are asking you and/or your organization to donate new or gently used Children's shoes or boots in child (boy or girl) sizes 1-5. Gift certificates for shoes are also welcome. Members of the Facilities and Registration Committees will be available throughout the conference to collect shoes or gift certificate donations.

In addition to the shoe drive, it is our goal to provide the McClernand Elementary school with 5 VCR combos (VCR and DVD) and 6 digital cameras. This will provide much needed classroom equipment for each grade level to support class activities and projects.

The Hope Institute for Children and Families is a nonprofit center providing educational, residential and health services to children ages 5-21 with multiple developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, and their families. Founded in 1957 by the Jordans, a Springfield, Illinois family who could not find specialized services for their disabled daughter, The Hope School was created to provide more than custodial care for children. At the time, a private group facility that served children with multiple disabilities was virtually unheard of. The Jordan family changed that, and since then The Hope School has grown into a total of six centers now called The Hope Institute for Children and Families.
